New York Mets defeat the Boston Red Sox

The New York Mets defeate
d the Boston Red Sox on Monday night.  The game took place at Fenway

Park in Boston, Massachusetts and the final score was 7-4.  Michael Wacha started for the Mets and

he pitched well.  Amed Rosario, Jeff McNeil and Wilson Ramos each had two hits to lead the Mets

offense. 

Wacha pitched five innings giving up five hits and a run with a walk and four strikeouts.  Wacha won

his first game of the season.  Chasen Shreve pitched two innings giving up a hit and a run, Jeurys

Familia pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up two hits and two runs with a walk and Seth Lugo earned

his first save of the season pitching 1 1/3 perfect innings and he struck out one. 

Josh Osich started for the Red Sox and he pitched two innings giving up two hits and two runs with a

walk and a strikeout.  Jeffrey Springs pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up four hits and five runs with a

walk and two strikeouts, Heath Hembree pitched 2/3 of an inning with a strikeout and Zack Godley

pitched four innings giving up four hits and he struck out seven.  Phillips Valdez pitched an inning

giving up a hit and he struck out one. 

Rosario had two hits, Pete Alonso had a hit and two RBI and McNeill had two hits.  J.D. Davis had a

hit and drew a walk, Michael Conforto had a hit and two RBI and Wilson Ramos had two hits. 

Robinson Cano drew a walk, Dom Smith had a hit and three RBI and Brandon Nimmo had a hit. 

Ramos hit a double and Conforto, Alonso and Smith each hit a homerun.  The Mets were 1-2 with

runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  McNeil was caught stealing and picked off. 

Andrew Benintendi had a hit, J.D. Martinez drew a walk and Rafael Devers had a hit. 

Xander Bogaerts had a hit and two RBI, Mitch Moreland had two hits and two RBI and Alex

Verdugo had a hit.  Jackie Bradley Jr. had a hit and drew a walk.  Jose Peraza had a hit, Devers hit a

double and Moreland and Bogaerts each hit a homerun.  The Red Sox were 1-8 with runners in

scoring position and left five men on base.  Benintendi had a stolen base, Peraza and Devers each

committed an error and Osich had a pickoff. 

In the second Conforto hit a two-run homerun giving the Mets a 2-0 lead.  In the third Alonso hit a

two-run homerun to push the Mets lead to 4-0.  In the fourth Smith hit a three-run homerun and the

Mets lead grew to 7-0.  In the bottom of the fourth Moreland hit a solo homerun to cut the lead to

7-1.  In the bottom of the sixth Bogaerts hit a solo homerun to make it 7-2 and in the eighth Bogaerts

hit an RBI ground out and Moreland hit an RBI single to cut the lead to 7-4 and that would be the

final score. 

The two teams will play game two of a four game home and  home series on Tuesday night.
