The New York Mets were defeated by the Boston Red Sox on Wednesday night. The game took
place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York and the final score was 6-5. Jacob deGrom started for the
Mets and he pitched well. The Mets bullpen blew the game and the offense was led by Pete Alonso
who had four hits.
deGrom pitched six innings giving up three hits and two runs with a walk and four strikeouts.
Seth Lugo pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run with a strikeout, Justin Wilson took the loss
his first of the season. He pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up three hits and three runs with three
walks and a strikeout, Dellin Betances pitched to one batter and struck him out and Jeurys Familia
pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one.
Nathan Eovaldi pitched five innings giving up eight hits and two runs with a walk and four
strikeouts. Marcus Walden pitched an inning giving up two hits and a run with three strikeouts, Josh
Osich pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one, Heath Hembree won his first
game of the season pitching to one batter and striking him out. Matthew Barnes pitched an inning
giving up two hits and a run with a strikeout, Brandon Workman pitched an inning giving up two
hits and a run with two walks and two strikeouts. Workman earned his first save of the season.
Brandon Nimmo had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk, Jeff McNeil had a hit and drew two walks and
Alonso had four hits. Michael Conforto had a hit, Dom Smith had a hit and an RBI and J.D. Davis
had a hit and an RBI. Yoenis Cespedes had two hits and an RBI, Robinson Cano had two hits and
Andres Gimenez had two hits and an RBI. Gimenez hit a triple and Nimmo and Cespedes each hit a
homerun. The Mets were 3-14 with runners in scoring position and left 11 men on base. Gimenez
was picked off.
Andrew Benintendi had a hit and drew a walk, J.D. Martinez had a hit and drew a walk and Rafael
Devers had a hit. Mitch Moreland had two hits and two RBI, Christian Vasquez had two hits and
three RBI and Alex Verdugo drew a walk. Kevin Pillar had a hit, Xander Bogaerts drew a walk and
Martinez, Devers, Moreland and Benintendi each hit a double. Vasquez hit a homerun and the Red
Sox were 3-9 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base. Benintendi was caught
stealing and Eovaldi had a pickoff.
In the first Smith hit an RBI groundout to give the Mets a 1-0 lead. In the fourth Moreland hit an
RBI double to tie the score at one. A wild pitch gave the Red Sox a 2-1 lead. Nimmo hit a solo
homerun in the fifth to tie the game at two. In the sixth Gimenez hit an RBI triple to give the Mets
back the lead at 3-2. In the seventh Vasquez hit a solo homerun tying the game at three. In the eighth
Moreland hit an RBI single to give the Red Sox a 4-3 lead. Vasquez hit a two-run single and it was
6-3 Red Sox. In the eighth Cespedes hit a solo homerun cutting the lead to 6-4 and in the ninth
Davis hit an RBI single to cut the lead to 6-5 but that would be the final score.
The two teams will play their fourth and final game of the home and home series on Thursday night.
