The New York Mets drop another to the Boston Red Sox

The New York Mets were defeated by the Boston Red Sox on Thursday night.  The game took

place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York and the final score was 4-2.  Steven Matz started for the

Mets and he pitched ok, the bullpen was pretty good and Jeff McNeill led the offense with a couple

of hits. 

Matz pitched 5 1/3 innings giving up eight hits and three runs with two walks and three strikeouts. 

Drew Smith pitched 1 2/3 innings with two strikeouts, Jeurys Familia pitched a perfect inning with

two strikeouts and Edwin Diaz pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a run with two walks and

a strikeout.  Paul Sewald pitched 2/3 of an inning with a strikeout. 

Martin Perez started for the Red Sox and he pitched 5 2/3 innings giving up two hits and two runs

with four walks and five strikeouts.  Perez picked up his first victory of the season.  Heath Hembree

piitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a hit and he struck out two, Matthew Barnes pitched an inning giving

up a hit and a walk with a strikeout and Brandon Workman picked up his second save of the season

pitching an inning and giving up a hit and he struck out two. 

Pete Alonso drew a walk, McNeil had two hits and two RBI and J.D. Davis had a hit and drew a

walk and Michael Conforto drew a walk.  Yoenis Cespedes drew a walk, Robinson Cano had a hit

and Wilson Ramos drew a walk.  Brandon Nimmo had a hit, the Mets were 1-10 with runners in

scoring position and left nine men on base.  Gimenez and Cordell each had a stolen base.  Conforto

was caught stealing and McNeil committed an error. 

Jose Peraza had a hit and an RBI, Kevin Pillar drew  and J.D. Martinez had a hit.  Xander Bogaerts

had a hit, Christian Vasquez had two hits and three RBI and Alex Verdugo had two hits and drew a

walk.  Michael Chavis had two hits, Andrew Benintendi drew two walks and Vasquez hit two

homeruns.  The Red Sox were 0-4 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base. 

Peraza was caught stealing and he committed two errors. 

In the second Vazquez hit a solo homerun giving the Red Sox a 1-0 lead.  In the third McNeil hit

a two-run single to give the Mets a 2-1 lead.  In the fourth Vazquez hit a two-run homerun to give

the Red Sox back the lead at 3-2.  In the ninth Peraza was hit by a pitch and a run scored to make it

4-2 and that was the final score. 

The Mets will now head to Atlanta for a three-game weekend series.
