The New York Mets finally lose to the Philadelphia Phillies



The New York Mets were defeated by the Philadelphia Phillies on Tuesday night.  The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York and the final score was 14-8 Phillies.  Jon Niese started for the Mets and didn't pitch well.  Yoenis Cespedes, David Wright and Michael Conforto each had two hits. 

Niese pitched five innings giving up seven hits and six runs with two walks and two strikeouts.  Niese lost his tenth game of the season.  Bobby Parnell pitched giving up three runs with two of them being earned and he walked two and didn't retire a batter, Eric O'Flaherty pitched giving up a run and a walk without recording an out and Carlos Torres pitched an inning giving up three hits and four runs with three of them being earned.  He walked a batter, Sean Gilmartin pitched an inning striking out the side, Addison Reed pitched an inning striking out one and Erik Goeddel pitched a perfect inning. 

Aaron Harang pitched 4 2/3 innings giving up five hits and four runs with a walk and four strikeouts.  Hector Neris pitched to one batter and retired him, Jeanmar Gomez won his second game of the season pitching two innings and giving up five hits and two runs with a strikeout and Luis Garcia pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run with two walks.  Jerome Williams pitched an inning giving up two hits and a run. 

Curtis Granderson had an RBI, Cespedes had two hits and two RBI and Daniel Murphy had a hit and an RBI.  Eric Campbell had a hit, Wright had two hits and Juan Lagares had a hit.  Conforto had two hits and an RBI, Michael Cuddyer drew a walk and Travis d'Arnaud had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk.  Kevin Plawecki drew a walk, Ruben Tejada had a hit and Kelly Johnson had a hit and an RBI.  Wilmer Flores had a hit and an RBI, Wright and Campbell each hit a double, Cespedes hit a triple and hit a homerun.  The Mets were 5-12 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Murphy, Parnell and Tejada each committed an error and Conforto had an outfield assist. 

Darnell Sweeney had two hits and three RBI, Cesar Hernandez had a hit and drew a walk and Aaron Altherr drew a walk.  Jeff Francoeur had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk, Darin Ruf had three hits and six RBI and Andres Blanco had a hit, two RBI and drew a walk.  Carlos Ruiz had a hit and drew a walk, Freddy Galvis had a hit and Cameron Rupp drew a walk.  Galvis, Ruiz, Sweeney and Blanco each hit a double and Ruf hit a homerun.  The Phillies were 7-16 with runners in scoring position and left three men on base.  Altherr had a stolen base. 

The Phillies scored five runs in the third inning and eight in the sixth inning.  The Mets did score four in the fifth and one run in the sixth through ninth innings but it wasn't enough.  The two teams will play the rubber game of the three game series on Wednesday night.
