The New York Yankees lose a tough one to the Tampa Bay Rays


The New York Yankees were defeated by the Tampa Bay Rays on Saturday afternoon.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 3-2 Tampa Bay.  Nathan Eovaldi who has been so good lately wasn't very sharp, he pitched ok but not deep into the game.  The bullpen was good and the offense didn't do too much. 

Eovaldi pitched 5 1/3 innings giving up five hits and three runs with four walks and seven strikeouts.  Eovaldi lost his third game of the season.  Chasen Shreve pitched an inning walking two and striking out one, Adam Warren pitched 2/3 of an inning striking out one and Nick Rumbelow pitched an inning giving up a hit.  James Pazos made his major league debut and pitched 2/3 of an inning striking out one and Andrew Bailey pitched 1/3 of an inning and walked one batter. 

Matt Moore pitched 4 2/3 innings giving up three hits and two runs with two walks and three strikeouts.  Brandon Gomes pitched 1/3 of an inning walking one, Xavier Cedeno pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up a walk and striking out four.  Cedeno won his fourth game of the season, Alex Colome pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up two hits and a walk with a strikeout and Brad Boxberger saved his 34th game of the season pitching a perfect inning. 

Brett Gardner had an RBI, Chris Young drew a walk and Alex Rodriguez drew a walk.  Carlos Beltran had a hit, Chase headley had two hits and Greg Bird had a hit.  John Ryan Murphy drew two walks, Brian McCann drew a walk and Didi Gregorius had a hit and an RBI.  Gregorius hit a double and the Yankees were 0-5 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base.  Murphy had a passed ball. 

John Jaso had two hits and drew a walk, Daniel Nava drew a walk and Evan Longoria drew a walk.  Richie Shaffer  drew two walks, Grady Sizemore drew a walk and Logan Forsythe had a hit.  Asdrubal Cabrera had a hit, two RBI and drew a walk, Kevin Kiermaier had two hits and an RBI and Forsythe hit a double and the Rays were 2-10 with runners in scoring position and left ten men on base. 

In the second Kiermaier hit an RBI single to give the Rays a 1-0 lead.  In the third Cabrera hit a two run single to extend the lead to 3-0.  In the fifth Gregorius hit an RBI double to cut the lead down to 3-1 and then Gardner hit an RBI groundout to make it 3-2 and that would be the final score.  The Yankees had the bases loaded in the eighth but couldn't tie the game.  The two teams have split the first two games and will play the rubber game on Sunday afternoon.
