The New York Mets return to their winning ways against the Philadelphia Phillies



The New York Mets defeated the Philadelphia Phillies on Wednesday night.  The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York and the final score was 9-4 Mets.  Matt Harvey started for the Mets and pitched ok, the bullpen was good.  Yoenis Cespedes and Travis d'Arnaud each had three hits to lead the offensive attack. 

Harvey pitched 6 1/3 innings giving up nine hits and four runs with a walk and nine strikeouts.  Harvey won his 12th game of the season.  Sean Gilmartin pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit, Tyler Clippard pitched a perfect inning and Addison Reed pitched a perfect inning. 

Aaron Nola pitched four innings giving up nine hits and six runs with no walks and four strikeouts.  He lost his second game of the season.  Dalier Hinojosa pitched two innings giving up three hits and a run with two walks, Adam Loewen pitched an inning giving up three hits and a run with a strikeout and Colton Murray pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run with two strikeouts. 

Curtis Granderson had a hit, Cespedes had three hits and an RBI and Daniel Murphy had a hit and an RBI.  David Wright had two hits and an RBI, Michael Conforto had two hits and two RBI and d'Arnaud had three hits.  Kelly Johnson had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk.  Ruben Tejada had two hits and four RBI, Johnson hit a double, Murphy hit a double and d'Arnaud hit two doubles.  Tejada, Conforto and Cespedes each hit a homerun and the Mets were 4-8 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Johnson had a stolen base and Young Jr. had a caught stealing.  Cespedes committed an error. 

Darnell Sweeney had a hit and an RBI, Cesar Hernandez had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk and Odubel Herrera had two hits.  Andres Blanco had two hits, Cody Asche had a hit and Cameron Rupp had a hit.  Freddy Galvis had a hit, Erik Kratz had a hit and two RBI and Kratz hit a double and Sweeney hit a homerun.  The Phillies were 2-5 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Sweeney had an outfield assist. 

In the second Johnson hit an RBI double giving the Mets a 1-0 lead.  In the second Tejada hit a two run inside-the-park homerun to make it 3-0 Mets.  In the third Murphy hit an RBI double to push the lead to 4-0 Mets.  Conforto hit a two run homerun in the third to push the lead to 6-0.  In the fifth Kratz hit a two run double to trim the lead to 6-2.  Hernandez hit an RBI single to make it 6-3 Mets.  In the bottom of the fifth Tejada hit an RBI ground out and it was 7-3 Mets.  In the seventh the Phillies cut it to 7-4 on a Sweeney solo homerun.  Tejada hit an RBI single in the seventh to make it an 8-4 game and in the eighth Cespedes hit a solo homerun to make it 9-4 Mets and that would be the final score.  The Mets took two out of three in the series  and will be off on Thursday.  They will begin a three game series in Miami against the Marlins on Friday night and then head to Washington to take on the Nationals next week.
