New York Mets are doubled up by the Washington Nationals


The New York Mets were defeated by the Washington Nationals on Sunday.  The game took place at Ballpark of the Palm Beaches in West Palm Beach, Florida and the final score was 10-5.  Hector Santiago started for the Mets and was horrible.  Robinson Cano had two hits to lead the offense. 

Santiago pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up seven hits and six runs with a strikeout.  Casey Coleman pitched 2 1/3 innings giving up two hits and he struck out two, Ryan O’Rourke pitched two innings giving up two hits and he struck out two and Tyler Bashlor pitched two innings giving up four hits and a run.  Ryley Gilliam pitched an inning giving up three hits and three runs. 

Brandon Nimmo had a hit and an RBI, Peter Alonso had a hit and two RBI and Cano had two hits and drew a walk.  J.D. Davis had a hit, Michael Conforto had a hit, two RBI and drew a walk and Jeff McNeil had a hit.  Amed Rosario drew a walk, Devin Mesoraco had ah it and Keon Broxton had a hit.  Cano and Davis each hit a double and Conforto and Alonso each hit a homerun.  The Mets were 2-10 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base. 

In the first Juan Soto hit a two-run homerun, Wilmer Difo hit a three-run double and Adrian Sanchez hit an RBI single to make it 6-0 Nationals.  In the fourth Conforto hit a two-run homerun to cut the lead to 6-2.  In the fifth Nimmo hit an RBI single to make it a 6-3 game.  In the sixth Matt Adams hit an RBI double to push the lead to 7-3.  In the seventh Alonso hit a two-run homerun to cut the lead to 7-5.  In the eighth Hunter Jones hit an RBI ground out and Tyler Goeddel hit a two-run homerun to extend the lead to 10-5 and that was the final score. 

The Mets will take on the Washington Nationals again on Monday at home in Port St. Lucie.
