The New York Mets were defeated by
the Washington Nationals on Friday. The
game took place at First Data Field in Port St. Lucie, Florida and the final
score was 11-3. Steven Matz started for
the Mets and he pitched horribly. Keon
Broxton led the offense with a couple of hits.
Matz pitched two innings giving up
seven hits and eight runs with a walk and a strikeout. Eric Hanhold pitched an inning giving up a
hit and a run with a walk, Edwin Diaz pitched an inning giving up two hits and
two runs and Robert Gsellman pitched a perfect inning. Luis Avilan pitched two innings giving up a
hit and he struck out one and Ryan O’Rourke pitched two innings giving up a hit
and a walk with three strikeouts.
Brandon Nimmo had a hit and drew a
walk, Jeff McNeil had ah it and Robinson Cano had a hit. Dominic Smith had a hit, Broxton had two hits
and Amed Rosario had a hit. Luis
Guillorme had a hit and an RBI, Rajai Davis had a hit and an RBI and Guillorme
and Broxton each hit a double. The Mets
were 2-10 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base. Broxton committed an error.
In the first Adam Eaton hit a solo
homerun to give the Nationals a 1-0 lead.
Matt Adams hit an RBI double and Yan Gomes hit a three-run homerun to
push the lead to 5-0. In the second
Anthony Rendon hit a two-run homerun and Ryan Zimmerman hit a solo homerun to
extend the Nationals lead to 8-0. In the
bottom of the second Guillorme hit an RBI double to cut the lead to 8-1. In the third Gomes hit a solo homerun making
it a 9-1 game. In the bottom of the
third Cano hit into a double play and the score was 9-2. In the fourth Rendon hit a solo homerun and
Adams hit a solo homerun making it 11-2.
Davis hit a sac fly in the seventh to cut the lead to 11-3 and that
would be the final score.
The Mets spring record fell to 9-11. They will head to Jupiter to take on the
Miami Marlins on Saturday.
