New York Yankees were defeated by the St. Louis Cardinals


The New York Yankees were defeated by the St. Louis Cardinals on Thursday.  The game took place at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium in Jupiter, Florida and the final score was 11-3.  Domingo German started for the Yankees and he did not pitch well.  Gio Urshela had two hits and Gleyber Torres had two RBI to lead the offense. 

German pitched 3 2/3 innings giving up six hits and five runs with four strikeouts.  Rex Brothers pitched to one batter and struck him out, Stephen Tarpley pitched a perfect inning and James Reeves pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up two hit and two runs with two walks.  Cale Coshow pitched an inning giving up five hits and four runs with two strikeouts and Phillip Diehl pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up a hit and he struck out two. 

Torres had a hit, two RBI and drew a walk, Miguel Andujar had a hit and Urshela had two hits.  Ryan Lavarnway had a hit, RBI and drew a walk, Matt Lipka had a hit and drew two walks and Urshela and Torres each hit a double.  The Yankees were 3-10 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Lipka and Zehner each had a stolen base.  Reeves committed an error. 

In the first Dexter Fowler hit a solo homerun giving the Cardinals a 1-0 lead.  In the second Drew Robinson hit an RBI single and Fowler hit his second homerun a two-run shot to push the Cardinals lead to 4-0.  In the third Torres hit a two-run double to cut the lead to 4-2.  In the bottom of the third Marcell Ozuna hit a solo homerun to make it 5-2.  In the fourth Lavarnway hit an RBI single to cut the lead to 5-3.  In the sixth Harrison Bader hit an RBI single and Robinson hit an RBI single to increase the Cardinals lead to 7-3.  In the seventh Ozuna hit an RBI double, Kolten Wong hit a sac fly and Robinson hit a two-run double to make it a 11-3 game and that would be the final score. 

The Yankees spring record fell to 15-8 and they will take on the Philadelphia Phillies at home in Tampa on Friday evening.
