New York Mets rally but then fall short to the Cincinnati Reds


The New York Mets were defeated by the Cincinnati Reds on Monday night.  The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York and the final score was 5-4.  Zack Wheeler started for the Mets and he pitched ok.  The offense only managed six hits and no player had more then a hit. 

Wheeler pitched six innings giving up seven hits and four runs with three walks and four strikeouts.  Seth Lugo pitched an inning giving up a hit and a walk with two strikeouts, Jeurys Familia pitched an inning with two walks and Edwin Diaz took his first loss of the season pitching an inning and giving up a hit and a run. 

Tanner Roark pitched 3 2/3 innings giving up four hits and four runs with four walks and three strikeouts.  Wandy Peralta pitched 1/3 of an inning and walked a batter, Michael Lorenzen pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up a hit and a walk with a strikeout and Amir Garrett pitched 2/3 of an inning with a strikeout.  David Hernandez pitched 2/3 of an inning striking out one and Raisel Iglesias pitched two innings giving up a hit and a walk with four strikeouts and he won his first game of the season. 

Jeff McNeil drew three walks, Pete Alonso had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk and Brandon Nimmo had an RBI and drew a walk.  Michael Conforto had a hit and drew a walk, Wilson Ramos had a hit and an RBI and Amed Rosario had a hit and an RBI.  Juan Lagares had a hit and drew a walk and Wheeler had a hit.  Conforto, Ramos and Lagares each hit a double and the Mets were 2-8 with runners in scoring position and left 10 men on base. 

Jose Peraza had two hits and an RBI, Joey Votto had a hit and drew a walk and Eugenio Suarez had an RBI.  Jesse Winker had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk, Yasiel Puig had a hit and drew a walk and Schott Schebler drew two walks.  Jose Iglesias had two hits and an RBI, Tucker Barnhart had a hit and an RBI and Roark had a hit.  Derek Dietrich drew a walk, Peraza, Iglesias and Puig each hit a double and Winker hit a homerun.  The Reds were 3-8 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base.  Peraza had a stolen base. 

In the second Iglesias hit an RBI double and Barnhart hit an RBI single.  Peraza hit an RBI double and Suarez hit a sac fly to give the Reds a 4-0 lead.  In the bottom of the second Ramos hit an RBI double and Rosario an RBI single cutting the lead to 4-2.  In the fourth Alonso drew an RBI walk and Nimmo drew an RBI walk to tie the game at four.  In the ninth Winker hit a solo homerun to give the Reds a 5-4 lead and that would be the final score. 

The two teams will play game two of four on Tuesday night.
