The New York Yankees defeated the Minnesota
Twins on Friday night. The game took
place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was
6-3. James Paxton started for the
Yankees and he struggled and only lasted three innings and then left with a
knee injury. The Yankees bullpen pitched
really well and Gary Sanchez hit two homeruns to lead the offense.
Paxton pitched three innings giving
up two hits and an unearned run with three walks and a strikeout. Jonathan Holder won his second game of the
season pitching two perfect innings with two strikeouts, Adam Ottavino pitched
a perfect inning with two strikeouts and Tommy Khanle pitched a perfect inning
with a strikeout. Zack Britton pitched
an inning giving up a hit and two runs with a walk and a strikeout and Aroldis
Chapman pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one and earned his
sixth save of the season.
Kyle Gibson pitched five innings
giving up seven hits and five runs with two of them being earned. He walked two and struck out five and lost
his first game of the season. Mike Morin
pitched two innings giving up a hit and a run and he struck out three and
Fernando Romero pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout.
Brett Gardner had an RBI, Luke Voit
had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk and Sanchez had three hits and two RBI. Gleyber Torres had a hit and an RBI, Mike
Ford had a hit and Gio Urshela had a hit.
Cameron Maybin had a hit and drew a walk and Sanchez hit two
homeruns. The Yankees were 3-8 with
runners in scoring position and left four men on base. Torres committed an error and Sanchez had a
passed ball.
Jorge Polanco drew a walk, Nelson
Cruz had a hit, two RBI and drew a walk and CJ Cron had a hit and an RBI. Marwin Gonzalez had two hits, Jonathan Schoop
drew a walk and Byron Buxton drew a walk.
Cruz hit a homerun and the Twins were 0-5 with runners in scoring
position and left five men on base. Cron
and Buxton each committed an error. Gonzalez
had two outfield assists.
In the first Torres hit an RBI
single to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead.
In the second Voit hit an RBI single to push the lead to 2-0. In the third Cron hit a sac fly to cut the
lead to 2-1. In the fourth a wild pitch
made it 3-1 Yankees and an RBI ground out by Gardner extended the lead to 4-1. In the fifth Sanchez hit a solo homerun to
make the score 5-1. In the seventh
Sanchez hit his second homerun making it 6-1.
In the eighth Cruz hit a two-run homerun to cut the lead to 6-3 and that
would be the final score.
The two teams will play game two of
three on Saturday afternoon.
