The New York Yankees
were defeated by the Arizona Diamondbacks on Tuesday night. The game took place at Chase Field in
Phoenix, Arizona and the final score was 3-1.
CC Sabathia started for the Yankees and he pitched well including
picking up his 3000th career strikeout. He is only the 17th player in
history to do that and third lefty.
Gleyber Torres led the offense with two hits.
Sabathia pitched
5 1/3 innings giving up five hits and two runs with two walks and five
strikeouts. He lost his first game of
the season. Jonathan Holder pitched 1
2/3 innings giving up a walk and he struck out one and Zack Britton pitched an
inning giving up two hits and a run with a strikeout.
Zack Greinke won
his fifth game of the season pitching 7 2/3 innings and giving up five hits and
a run with a walk and seven strikeouts.
Andrew Chafin pitched to one batter and struck him out and Greg Holland
saved his sixth game of the season pitching a perfect inning with a strikeout.
Brett Gardner had
a hit, Luke Voit drew a walk and Gary Sanchez had a hit. Torres had two hits and an RBI, Cameron
Maybin had a hit and Sanchez and Torres each hit a double. The Yankees were 1-5 with runners in scoring
position and left three men on base.
Maybin was caught stealing and Maybin was picked off.
Adam Jones drew
a walk, Ketel Marte had a hit and Eduardo Escobar had three hits. David Peralta had an RBI, Christian Walker
drew a walk and Wilmer Flores had two hits, two RBI and drew a walk. Nick Ahmed had a hit, Escobar hit two doubles
and Marte hit a double. Flores hit a
homerun and the Diamondbacks were 2-9 with runners in scoring position and left
six men on base. Greinke had a pickoff.
In the second
Flores hit a solo homerun to give the Diamondbacks a 1-0 lead. In the fourth Torres hit an RBI double to tie
the game at one. In the bottom of the
fourth Flores hit an RBI single to push the lead to 2-1. In the eighth Peralta hit a sac fly making it
a 3-1 game and that would be the final score.
The two teams will
complete their brief two-game series on Wednesday afternoon.
