New York Mets walk-off against the Cincinnati Reds


The New York Mets defeated the Cincinnati Reds on Tuesday night.  The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York and the final score was 4-3.  Jason Vargas started for the Mets and he pitched well.  Jeff McNeil led the Mets offense with four hits. 

Vargas pitched 5 1/3 innings giving up three hits and a run with three walks and five strikeouts.  Robert Gsellman pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up a hit and a walk and he struck out three, Jeurys Familia pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up four hits and two runs with a walk and three strikeouts and Daniel Zamora gave up a walk.  Drew Gagnon won his first game of the season pitching 1 1/3 innings with two strikeouts. 

Luis Castillo pitched 6 2/3 innings giving up five hits and two runs with three walks and seven strikeouts.  Robert Stephenson pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a run with two strikeouts, Amir Garrett pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one and Jared Hughes pitched to one batter and got him out.  David Hernandez pitched an inning with two strikeouts, Raisel Iglesias pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up two hits and a run and he lost his fourth game of the season. 

McNeil had four hits and an RBI, Pete Alonso had an RBI and Brandon Nimmo drew a walk.  Michael Conforto had a hit and an RBI, Todd Frazier had a hit and an RBI and Amed Rosario had two hits and drew a walk.  Gsellman drew a walk, J.D. Davis had a hit and Davis and McNeil each hit a double.  Frazier hit a homerun and the Mets were 3-9 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Rosario had a stolen base and Ramos, Vargas and McNeil each committed an error.  Lagares had an outfield assist. 

Jose Peraza had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk, Joey Votto had two hits and drew a walk and Eduardo Suarez had a hit and an RBI.  Yasiel Puig drew a walk, Curt Casali drew a walk and Phillip Ervin had a hit and drew a walk.  Jesse Winker drew a walk, Jose Iglesias had two hits and Kyle Farmer had a hit and an RBI.  Votto hit a double and Suarez hit a homerun.  The Reds were 2-8 with runners in scoring position and left 11 men on base.  Peraza and Puig each had a stolen base and Ervin was caught stealing. 

In the third McNeil hit an RBI single to give the Mets a 1-0 lead.  In the sixth Suarez hit a solo homerun to tie the game at one.  In the seventh Frazier hit a solo homerun giving the Mets a 2-1 lead.  In the eighth Conforto hit an RBI single to push the Mets lead to 3-1.  In the ninth Farmer hit an RBI single and Peraza hit an RBI single to tie the game at three.  In the bottom of the tenth Alonso hit a sac fly to win the game 4-3 for the Mets. 

The two teams will play game three of four on Wednesday night.
